Minister Blanár welcomes the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. Asks Russia to consider the offer
The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, welcomed the peace proposal that emerged from the negotiations between the USA and Ukraine in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

According to Blanár, this is an important step towards stopping the fighting and finding a lasting peaceful solution.
"I appreciate the tremendous efforts of the new United States administration to broker peace talks in Saudi Arabia that offer an initial necessary ceasefire in the military conflict in Ukraine. This is an important development that can stop the killing and lead to the search for a lasting peaceful solution," Blanár said.
He also called on the Russian Federation to address this proposal urgently, as it could represent an imaginary "light at the end of the tunnel".
The sooner there is peace, the better
The minister added, however, that he regretted that similar initiatives had not come sooner. "Every day that brings even a ceasefire means human lives spared, and that should be the basis for any future solution," he added.
Blanár recalled that the current government has long supported diplomatic solutions to the conflict in Ukraine. "We supported peace negotiations when we were still the opposition and even now, as part of the government coalition, we consider them the only possible solution. It has been confirmed that there is no military solution to this conflict," the minister concluded.
The Ukrainian delegation discussed options for ending Russia's war against Ukraine with US representatives in Jeddah on Tuesday and agreed to a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, which the US will now also approach Moscow with in the coming days.
The foreign ministries of Ukraine and the United States announced in a statement after the meeting that the US is resuming military aid to Ukraine and Washington will resume intelligence sharing with Kiev.
