Earthquake continues, coalition has no majority: Rebels from Hlas refuse to vote, demand PM's intervention
The four MPs Ján Ferenčák, Roman Malatinec, Radomír Šalitroš and Samuel Migaľ objected to the statements made by party chair Matúš Šutaj Eštok at the Hlas of the DS congress. They claim that his words are not true and are aimed at discrediting.
According to the MPs' statement, instead of a debate, they see an increase in the interest of the security forces in their persons. They point out that during the negotiations with the party leadership they demanded a guarantee of security to prevent abuse of power against them and the citizens of Slovakia.
They insist on democratic values
The expelled MPs Migaľ, Šalitroš and their two colleagues stress that they have always defended democratic values and wanted to address real problems of the people.
Despite the heated situation, they say they still support maintaining the governing coalition.
They demand PM's intervention, refuse to vote
In a statement, they also called on Prime Minister Robert Fico to urgently address the situation, as the current tensions are causing uncertainty in society.
The MPs also declared that under the current pressure they will not vote in the National Council until the situation is resolved.
The Hlas-SD announced the expulsion of two MPs from the party on Friday (24 January) during a working congress. The reason was their demands for their own personal nominations for four key posts: minister of the interior, deputy chairman of the National Assembly, director of military intelligence and deputy chairman of the Voice-SD party.
Šutaj Eštok described them as blackmailers who did not follow the party's values and came to the Voice shortly before the elections. According to the party chief, MPs Ferenčák and Malatinec are welcome for discussion. He told them that they should choose which side they want to be on.
We talked to political scientist Miroslav Řádek about the expulsion of the two MPs.
