Return to the scene: Police brought Samuel back to the gymnasium in Spišská Stará Ves where he murdered
Return to the scene. The police brought Samuel back to the gymnasium in Spišská Stará Ves. The investigator wanted to verify his statement on the spot. So far, he has not been charged. It was confirmed that he had had problems with the law in the past.
Spišská Stará Ves is still in shock a day after the attack. Among the first to arrive at the scene was the mayor of the town of two thousand. He won't soon forget what he saw.
The school gates remained closed
The school gates remained closed on Friday. A day after the bloody tragedy, 18-year-old Samuel returned to the scene, accompanied by police, wearing a helmet and apparently a bulletproof vest. The prosecutor's office confirmed that it has opened a criminal investigation for the crime of murder.
"The suspect has not yet been charged, nor has a motion been filed to take him into custody," said Michal Sovič, spokesman for the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Prešov.
He has also been prosecuted in the past
The prosecutor's office did not disclose more information due to the sensitivity of the case. However, it confirmed that the suspected young man had been prosecuted in the past for the offences of dangerous threats and disorderly conduct. The news drew attention to two convictions that show young Samuel's aggressive tendencies. In February 2022, when he was 15 years old, he beat up a female classmate in Kežmarok.
"...he hit her with the clenched palms of both hands on the side of her face, whereupon the victim fell to the ground, with the victim continuously screaming to stop what she was doing, whereupon as she fell to the ground he started kicking her with his feet all over her body and also kicked her on the back of her head..."
He confessed to the attack
He pleaded guilty to the assault and entered into a plea agreement with the prosecutor. The court assessed it as disorderly conduct and gave him an 18-month suspended sentence and a ban on approaching the assailant at a distance of less than 5 metres.
He was convicted a second time of making dangerous threats, which occurred before the first assault. He was also targeted by female classmates, whom he blamed for his teacher excluding him from an online Slovak class.
"...that if they wanted to have a war, they would have one, and in further communication with other female classmates, he stated that he would beat them all up and kill them, that he didn't care."
He slapped one of them
The verdict shows that he had previously slapped one of the girls during break time, deliberately hit her with his bicycle and threatened her that if he met her, she would be as stiff as ice. But he got off without further punishment. The judge considered the previous one sufficient to protect society and reform the defendant.
The headmistress of the school in Spišská Stará Ves confirmed to Korzár that she did not know about Samuel's criminal past. As he had also verbally attacked female classmates at their school, it was the murdered deputy who suggested an individual study plan for him. As recently as Thursday, the attorney general admitted that the act could also qualify as premeditated murder.
In a double murder case, the perpetrator faces 20 years to life in prison. If it is premeditated murder, the minimum is 25 years.
