Who is Putin's favourite in the West? Orbán has a new rival - Robert Fico, writes the Hungarian portal
Not only Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, but also Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is fighting for the favour of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was stated by server 444.hu in a commentary on Friday (17 January).
In the imaginary competition "who best represents Putin's interests in the West", Orbán has found a strong challenger, according to the server.
After a brief hiatus, Fico returned as re-elected prime minister in the autumn of 2023 and quickly caught up with his Hungarian colleague with his tremendous routine and hard work, 444.hu adds.
Orbán's monopoly is over
Orbán's monopoly has thus, according to him, come to an abrupt end. There are already two acting prime ministers of a European Union member state who "still find the truths of the world in the Russian narrative" and in Brussels they do despite, at least in terms of statements, but in terms of voting this is no longer the case, 444.hu reports.
"These two politicians might even help each other, but there are not many signs of cooperation and joint action so far, which raises the question that if Putin had to choose between them on any issue, which one would it be," writes Attila Rovó in a commentary in which he analyses in detail the roots and development of Fico and Orbán's relations with Russia.
