Thirty migrants tried to cross the Czech Republic in a truck. They were caught by police, one did not survive the journey
On Monday (3 September) evening, Czech police stopped a truck carrying around 30 migrants on the D8 motorway at the exit to Nová Ves and Mělník.
Several of them are in poor health, with one showing no signs of life. News server Novinky.cz reported late on Monday evening.
The truck was stopped by police after 20:00 in the direction of Ústí nad Labem. It is not yet clear whether it had him singled out or whether it was a random check. Police spokeswoman Barbora Schneeweiss told News.cz that the vehicle was hiding about 30 migrants, whose nationality she did not know. Police said on the social network X that they appeared to be so-called transit migrants.
A helicopter with thermal imaging also intervened at the scene and searched the surrounding area for possible migrants on the run. However, according to the police, this was only a precautionary search. According to the police, none of the migrants managed to escape, although some of them tried to do so after the truck was stopped.
However, one dead migrant was also discovered in the truck. Monika Nováková, a spokeswoman for the rescue service, confirmed the deaths. "The person died on the spot after unsuccessful resuscitation," she said.
Czech television, meanwhile, reported that the dead person was a woman. In addition, the rescue service said on the X platform that several of the migrants were in poor health.
